Rightacres was established over 50 years ago by its late founder Michael McCarthy and still remains a family-owned, Cardiff-based company.
2020's
2020 will see Rightacres undertake its biggest scheme to date – the two and a half million square feet Central Quay mixed-use development at the former Brains Brewery site.
This riverfront project has an investment value of over £1 Billion and should take about seven years to complete.
2010's
In 2014 Rightacres entered into a £400m agreement with Legal & General to fund Central Square which is now home to BBC Cymru Wales, HMRC, Hugh James, MotoNovo, Hodge Bank, Cardiff University and Blake Morgan. In 2019, the Cardiff Interchange project was signed. At over 500,000 sq ft this is Wales' largest ever privately financed development.
2000's
The 2000’s saw Rightacres develop headquarters buildings for Lloyds Bank plc, The AA and British Gas together with three hotels in partnership with MacDonald Hotels and a 200 bedroom Premier Inn. We also delivered the second phase of Callaghan Square in partnership with MEPC.
1990's
In the late 90’s Rightacres focussed on Cardiff City centre office schemes for clients including NatWest, PWC, Banque National de Paris, London & Edinburgh Trust, Welsh Water and Norwich Union. In this decade we developed over 500,000 sq ft of commercial space.
1980's
The 80’s was all about Retail & Health. Rightacres built a number of Tesco Superstores throughout Wales and Tesco’s own Welsh Headquarters building. We also developed the BUPA Private Hospital in Cardiff which (at the time) had the most sophisticated operating theatres outside the NHS.
1970's
Rightacres' first development was to refurbish a row of terraced houses in Pontcanna, Cardiff. This led to a number of other small residential developments and then to our first office development for accountants Grant Thornton on Penhill Road in Cardiff – they are still there 50 years later. We also developed our first hotels - The Stradey Park Hotel in Llanelli, The Royal Ivy Bush Hotel in Carmarthen and the famous Double Diamond Club in Llanelli.
